on the eve of press conference, 2v1g had a rehearsal in my house....
the chemistry and the camaraderie are so much stronger now than when we first started 12 months ago... everyone is having fun!
so it is gonna be the first time 2v1g performing live together as a trio!

who would have guessed - 2v1g received an invitation from no black tie (NBT) to perform a gig there in september!
NBT, long regarded as the premier jazz club in downtown kl, is the meeting place for musicians, jazz lovers and casual music lovers who want a classy place for good music. the acoustics there is first class too.
we are delighted! well, we are definitely keen but we have to sit down to discuss with everyone in the team tomorrow night, when we rehearse for our press conference on friday.
2v1g's press conference is going to be held on friday 18th july 2008, at 3pm-4pm at precious old china cafe, central market.
if you happen to be around that area at that time, do drop by and get your remaining autograph from roger wang!

第一次有机会在台湾小巨蛋现场观看金曲奖，心情是兴奋的。再加上这次有老公陪伴，更是别具意义。
三面台的小巨蛋7点钟已经排满了人龙，听说有的观众前一晚已经在星光大道等候。幸好我们的座位是有编号的才不至于要排队入场, 谢谢小叶老师 :)
是啊，我们喜爱的 Tanya 再度夺下金曲奖最佳女演唱 ！看着她率先夺下最佳作曲和专辑制作人，眼泪狂飙的那一刻，我的心情已经是激动的了。总觉得这两个奖项对 Tanya 来说更加意义重大，仿佛之前所受的辛苦和委屈，都会在得到肯定的那一刻一扫而空的。最最记得她说的一句话：" 做音乐的过程中，很多时候是需要不断的自我怀疑、调整、重整和前进的"。
走音乐这一条路，真的需要备有异于常人的能耐和心理建设 ~

tanya chua's [goodbye & hello] is undoubtedly this year's best mandarin album.
everyone in 2v1g likes tanya chua, including roger, who was impressed the first time he heard tanya's voice. he yelled, "this is very unlike the typical chinese pop singer!".
tanya has come a long way from her indie roots in s'pore. she is regarded by many as one of today's most talented singer-songwriters in the chinese scene (the other being taiwan's cheer chen qi zhen). in a sea of crappy chinese mandarin pop, her music comes to anyone with discerning and critical ears, as refreshing and cool, without succumbing to the hype and commericalism of today's manufactured pop.
last night was her 2nd time winning the best female singer in taiwan's golden melody awards. not only that, tanya also won the best producer award. as a first time producer, she must be over the moon with this recognition.
we all at 2v1g are happy that tanya gets the recognition she long deserves!
Sometimes the only way to discover new places is to let someone else led the way. That's basically what happened with this new album.
Leslie also recruited producer Chow Kam Leong as well as Winnie Ho and Regine Tai on vocals. He named the project 2V1G which stood for 2 voices 1 guitar. It was supposed to be a temporary name, but since no one was able to come up with something better, it eventually became the name of the group and album.
Once the songs were selected, I began work on the arrangements which turned out to be harder than expected. You see I have never taken much interest in Chinese pop music, so all this was new to me. Ironically this was one of the reasons that I has chosen for this project. Coming for a different musical background, Leslie felt that I should be able to look at these songs with a fresh perspective. Winnie and Regine on the other hand come from a strong background in singing Chinese pop songs. Winnie is the winner of Astro Talent Quest 2000 (an annual Chinese singing competition in
This meant that I needed to bring my guitar arrangement closer to what Winnie and Regine were used to and at the same time give it a fresh interpretation!! ..... I had to rethink a lot of my approach to this project. A lot of my usual playing style just didn't work in this context. I had to bring myself out of my musical boundaries and get closer to what would work better with the singers, the songs and the vision of the producer.
The guitar recording took a total of 12 days that was split into 3 separate trips to KL. It was a bit of a struggle at the beginning, but towards the end I began to get the hang of it. We managed to come up with a nice selection of 12 songs. Besides the standard heartfelt Chinese ballads, there are also a few songs that were arranged in a style that was closer to home for me. There should be enough variety without being too safe.
I just received the album a week ago and heard the final product for the first time. I must say the whole production team did a great job. Not many singers have the guts to expose themselves and sing with so little musical instruments to hide behind. Winnie and Regine not only managed to pull it off, but their vocal performance really stood out. My guitar playing came out really different from anything that I have done before. It felt refreshing, familiar and a bit foreign all at the same time ... but in a good way.
All in all, I enjoyed the whole experience. I got to discover new musical territories, tried things I normally will not do on my own, worked with a wonderful team and gained a deeper understanding of Chinese pop music as well as a few kilos from all the pork they fed me!!

besides things related to 2V1G, we will also share with you here music/albums that we like and also the events (i.e.concert, gig, promo) that our music label musictoxin organizes. the ratio of 2v1g's news compared to non-2v1g's news would be 80:20.
just as a sneak preview, together with dongtaidu (a chinese indie concert organizer) we will be bringing in - for the first time in malaysia - hong kong's indie act my little airport for a mini concert on the 30th august 2008! stay tuned.

最近参与了音乐剧《宝镜》的演出。配合来自中国的导演和老师，我们这一星期展开紧锣密鼓的基本功训练。
昨天是我的第一天。这基本功的训练可不简单，导演似乎要把我们的潜能都开发出来。我这副老骨头，还有很久都没有伸展过的肌肉，可忙得不可开交。一天的训练以后，发现身上多了很多“战迹”，淤青处处。
我今天掉泪了。因为在做伸展动作时，很痛。导演站在我身后，把握的身体往下压。我承受不了，于是眼泪飚了出来。那一刻，我觉得我真的忍受不下去了。但是，我很快把眼泪擦干，我告诉自己不能那么轻易就放弃。容易得到的东西，我们都不懂得珍惜。只有辛苦换来的，我们才能有所体会。再来，如果连这样的苦我都忍受不了，那我想我永远也没办法真正体会神仙水深火热，身心受巨大痛苦的那种痛。
站起身的那一刻，我继续练习。我知道我天生没有舞蹈的天分，有人说，我天物的时候很想一只企鹅。我很想笑，因为觉得他们说得真对。虽然远远不及其他人的舞姿优美，却觉得自己跨出了一大步。自己正在努力的战胜一只克服不到的心魔。套用一句话，“只有经历过黑白的人，才能体会彩色的缤纷”。完成这个任务，我的人生，将会多一项战绩。我称不上能歌善舞，但是，我战胜了自己。
最后，向所有参与演出的演员致敬，他们再这样艰巨的训练里，始终持着不放弃精神，哪怕再累，大家依旧撑下去，直到把演出完成为止。
